If you are an Apple user then most probably you would be familiar with the emergency, government, and public safety alerts that apple has introduced on its devices. And if you not, then you must know that, these alerts were originally featured on iPhones and Apple watch. And the reason why Apple has implemented an emergency notification feature on its devices is the Safety of its consumers!
But do you know that in October 2019, Apple has made certain changes in its emergency alert feature? Well if you haven’t heard of anything about the changes Apple has made in its alerts then this blog post is just the right one for you!
Here you will not only learn about the improvements of the emergency alert features but also what kinds of public alerts you can get.
The sole purpose of issuing emergency alerts on Apple devices is to alert people to get to safety before any mishap. And when it comes to an emergency it could be any matter of serious attention. Therefore Apple has tried to cover almost all kinds of emergency alerts to ensure the safety of the public.
Mainly, the emergency alerts/notification on Apple devices are covered in three broader categories; the Amber Alerts, Government Emergency Alerts, and Public Safety Alerts. In these categories, Apple issues different kinds of alerts such as:
If you are thinking that why haven’t you seen any of these alert options on your iPhone or Apple watch then it is probably because you haven’t explored your device settings enough. To kill your curiosity, you can find these emergency and public safety alerts in your device settings under the notification tab.
One thing that you should know is that Amber Alerts and Public Alerts are not available in every region. Especially the Amber alerts. The term AMBER means ‘America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Reports’. So hence it is obvious that AMBER alerts are only for the residents of the USA. it means if you are unable to find AMBER alerts on your Apple devices it’s probably because you have no use of that.
In October 2019, Apple announced that it’s going to broadcast the government and public safety alerts in the form of audio and video messages. And these audio and video alerts would be streamed on Apple Music and Apple TV+. To implement this feature a Bipartisan Bill (legislation) has already been designed and proposed.
But what led Apple to broadcast these alerts on their music and TV application? Remember the false Emergency alert about the Ballistic Missiles were incoming on Hawaii? Well if you haven’t heard about this fake news, you are not the only one. Back in January 2018, people of Hawaii received an alert on their apple devices about their country was going to be attacked by missiles!
The news was false and it was sent as an error while Apple was testing its Emergency Alert System. Though it was an experiment that went wrong it wasn’t a total waste. This error revealed one of the biggest flaws of the Apple Emergency Alert System – that not everyone in Hawaii didn’t receive the message! It missed a large number of people who should be notified about the alert.
So Apple needed an effective, efficient and strong solution for the damage control. Therefore in order to ensure that everyone who is within the vicinity of emergency threats such as natural disaster, terrorism or an epidemic – gets notified about the situation, Apple decided to broadcast emergency alerts on Apple Music and Apple TV+.
Broadcasting the emergency alerts on Apple TV+ and Music is a precautionary measure to ensure that in the hour of need everyone who should be notified about the emergency situation, receive it. But it doesn’t mean that Apple has rendered the message feature.
It means that if you are an Apple user then you should be certainly notified about the emergency situations concerning situations not just by messages but also via audio and video streaming!
The other benefit of broadcasting the emergency alerts on Apple Music and TV application is that it is no more limited to iPhones and Apple Watches. Rather every Apple device supporting the Apple Music and Apple TV+ application would notify the users about the emergency situations.
Apple is indeed an innovative company that is not just focused on providing the latest technology to the public but also determined to ensure the safety of the public.
